Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Special Chief Secretary, Energy, KVijayanand has highlighted the State's commitment on implementation of energy efficiency and green energy for economic development and meeting the targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

He said this when A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Media Adviser Southern States /UTs/, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) met him at Amaravati to convey his appreciation for Andhra Pradesh's focus on energy efficiency measures.

Industry body CII estimated that Andhra Pradesh would offer investment potential of Rs 8,000 crore in energy saving segment by 2031. Its report also provided a roadmap for the State to achieve its energy efficiency goals.

AP's role in implementing the BEE's call for a nationwide movement on a sustainable basis to combat climate change and protect the environment came under praise at the meeting. Emphasizing collective action, BEE had earlier urged governments, industries, and individuals to address the alarming rise in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, deforestation, and pollution.

Experts have already stressed the need to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement. Since the energy sector accounts for nearly 75 per cent of all GHG emissions, transitioning to clean energy, enhancing energy efficiency, effective water management, and afforestation are critical strategies to mitigate climate impacts.

Under these crucial circumstances and on the occasion of successful completion of National Energy Conservation Week this month, Chandra Sekhara Reddy met a few top energy sector officers of Southern States including Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and discussed the impact of communication strategies for enhancement of energy efficiency.

As part of his endeavour the Media Adviser along with Kumar Reddy, CEO, APSECM, met Vijayanand. During the discussion while thanking the support of BEE and various government of India Ministries including MNRE and organisations like Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Central PSUs under Ministry of Power for promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy which helps in providing quality of power in the State, he reiterated AP's thrust on pioneering in energy efficiency measures as per direction given by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Reddy later said that BEE and the State Designated Agency (SDA) of AP i.e., State Energy Conservation Mission have completed the preparation of the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan/SEEAP/report in coordination with CII. Sources said the CII has estimated around Rs8,000 crore in energy saving investment potential in Andhra Pradesh by 2031.
